Growing Grass From Seed: Clay Soil vs Seed-Raising Mix

I always wondered what difference the fancy seed-raising mix makes with germination and grass growth.

I put the low quality clay soil in a test against the fancy compost and found the seeds to be germinating at about the same rate. Obviously the plant has to work much harder to develop a root system in a thick clay-rich soil so it wasn’t a surprise to see it struggle to thrive.
